I hate it when Mercedes-Benz's have AMG plates.

I have a license plate frame with an ///M on it... need to replace that...

This and people who buy fake wheels and then put stickers of the wheels they're replicating on annoy me to no end. (I'm looking at you Varrstoen/Rota owners -_-)

It's easy to get excited when you buy an M3 and it doesn't have a license plate frame...

How about when someone takes all the badges off and puts on ///M wheels?

Kinja'd!!! RPM esq. > ddavidn

Kinja'd!!!1

Oh, you have an ///M license plate frame on your actual M car? I think I speak for all BMW enthusiasts (dangerous claim) when I say: I'LL ALLOW IT. This dipshit with an ///M frame on a 328 (still a perfectly nice car, obviously), not so much.

Sure, this is much more tragic. But having an M frame and an M badge is kinda silly too. I don't even feel like I need any badges at all, but I keep them because stock looks is my favorite looks.

HOW DARE SHE.

Additionally, I better not see a Mazdaspeed frame on a regular Mazda. Oh wait. I don't care. This must be an elitist thing.

They're nice wheels, that doesn't seem so bad. You see a lot of E34s and E36s on various M wheels, they usually look pretty good, and I don't think the owner is usually trying to pretend the car is something it's not. But on E46's, it's common to see a debadged 325 or whatever with the M front bumper, wheels, and trunk lid spoiler... at some point I think it crosses the line into poseurdom. But if you're just upgrading your wheels, why not?

I may very well be the only person who gives 0 fucks what kind of license plate frame you have.

Fair point. And it's a nice-looking, relatively subtle badge. Personally, I wouldn't add more of them (front kidneys!* license plate frames! window stickers!), but the stock one on the back and the little logo on the gills are nice. And my world just feels so stable and comfortable when every BMW says what it is on the back.

*Exception: I've always thought E30 M3s look good with a badge on the grille between the lights and the kidneys.

You're in an E46 with actual gills, right? Those do look good. If I had an E46, I'd debadge the back because everyone that cares can tell by the exhaust and/or side things. Not saying you should, just that I would. But generally I prefer everything to be stock. No DINAN badges or anything (Exception: Alpina, because everything Alpina is lovely)

Actually, it's more like anti-elitist, or at least anti-superficial: too many enthusiast communities—and the BMW community is surely afflicted worse than most—are infected with this kind of badge envy horseshit. Buy what you like and can afford, enjoy it, and be proud of it, but it's idiotic to go out and buy emblems for some other model and go around pretending. It's not like I'm saying this person doesn't "deserve" their $10 license plate frame, just that it's dumb. I'd rather talk to someone with a beat $1500 '93 318 that they were proud of than somebody with a new 328 with the wrong emblems on it—it definitely isn't elitism.

My non-M car came stock with M bits such as the steering wheel and shift knob. Not my fault...

BMW has definitely broken down whatever line there ever was with the proliferation of what amounts, basically, to Audi's "S-line"—M style, if not substance. So perhaps I shouldn't complain.

It is nice, but it's very short. In and around Fort Ebey on Whidbey Island. When combined with Deception Pass (some decent short stretches near Cougar Gap), maybe a hike or a picnic in one of the parks, it's a pretty good day out.

That's a whole other can of worms. Like stickers for JDM tuners and parts on cut-spring "stance" VWs.

My intake, exhaust, clever interior accessory wiring, and ECU tuning mods appreciate the value of a stock appearance. If I didn't have to have the back seat reasonably accessible to my kid....cage wouldn't be out of the question. Only the wheels and the ride height betray my secrets.

Do you ever come down to Griot's or to the Redmond meet or anything?

Kinja'd!!! RPM esq. > ddavidn
05/14/2014 at 01:12

Kinja'd!!!1

I haven't been down to Griot's or to Redmond Exotics since moving back to Seattle—in fact, I've only really been to one big meet in the last couple years (BMW Concours in Renton, July 2012). I take my son to the Greenwood meet every year, purely as a spectator. I'm intending to make the Leavenworth drive this year for the first time. I just don't have a good sense of where the community comes out here... any pointers would be welcome! Should I hit Redmond this weekend, for example?

I... don't know. I have not yet been to Redmond. But my brother and I plan to scrape together some extra gas money and hit up the meet on a couple sunny weekends. I hear their turnout is worthwhile, unless it is raining.

You are correct. '95 coupe. She has a lot of problems but I love her to death. You can see some pictures in this tag: oppositelock.jalopnik.com/tag/eva

And by a lot of problems, I mean a few problems I can't afford to fix. A little more money in the car budget and she would be working awesome.
